A team of paleontologists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences has discovered a new specimen of the flying dromaeosaurid, which they have called Microraptor zhaoianus. The most curious thing is that it keeps in its stomach the remains of an almost complete lizard

The alligator it is unlike any other known from the Cretaceous and represents a new species, which they have named Indrasaurus wangi in honor of Professor Wang Yuan, researcher at the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology and director of the China Paleozoological Museum.

For its part, the denomination Indrasaurus is inspired by a legend of the god Indra which was swallowed by a dragon during a great battle - the dragon here would be represented by the Microraptor.

This is the Fourth documented appearance of a microraptor that retains remains in its stomach. Thanks to these fossils, we know that this dinosaur fed on mammals, birds, fish and lizards, which supports the hypothesis that it was an opportunistic predator. The study was published this week in the journal Current Biology.
